17U Black – MLK Emerald Champions!

CHVBC Wins the MLK 17U Emerald Division17U Black “Team Chaos” (pictured here with club director Jeff Mooney) brought home the first division championship in the history of CHVBC at the MLK Tournament in Lancaster, PA.  With two players out due to injury, the team was forced to go wire-to-wire with only seven players, playing NINE matches over the three day tournament.

Jessica Booth rose to the challenge in her first full tournament playing the Setter position.  In the back row, Emily Kelly (Libero) frustrated opposing hitters with some big digs in the elimination round while Emma Scott (Middle Hitter) made the play of the weekend on Day 2 with a diving save in her first club tournament appearance.  In the front row, Jamie DiVito (Middle Hitter) and Sherron Howard (Opposite) combined to set up an imposing block and contributed big kills down the stretch as they developed a connection with Booth.  Outside hitters Kate Wrinn and Jane Sweeney provided strong passing to keep the offense in synch.  Wrinn led all CHVBC hitters in kills while Sweeney showed off her vertical jump on the outside, ripping off four consecutive kills in a day 2 match.

Head Coach, Dan Chung, was pleased with the result and attributed their success to the hard work his team put in at practice over the first month.  Coach Chung took a reserved approach on the bench, letting his players work through some early troubles and rely on the fundamentals they had drilled in practice.  The result was a three game sweep of the Emerald Division in Monday’s elimination bracket.  Congratulations to all of the players!
