16U White – Capitol Classic Flight 5A Champions!

Team Adrenaline (pictured here with Coach Carolyn Mooney) played solid volleyball all weekend and were rewarded for their efforts on the final day with a 3-0 match record, sweeping their opponents and winning Flight 5A!

Our servers consistently put pressure on the opponents throughout the weekend.  Our ball control finally came together this weekend with our outside hitters showing better form and contributing to a serve receive anchored by our defensive specialists.  This allowed us to run offense in the front row where we saw strong performances by all of our hitters.  Our middle hitters were very active in the offense and combined with our opposite to set up a strong block.  Congrats to Team Adrenaline and Coach Carolyn Mooney!

Team Heat improved since MLK, but ran into some strong teams in DC where they had the toughest first day bracket of our three teams.  I saw the most improvement in our team serving.  The team had a win on Day 1 where they had ZERO serving errors as a team.  That is a phenomenal achievement as a team and illustrates the importance of concentration and sound mechanics from the serving line.  Defensively, we were extremely aggressive on Day 1 as the players showed little regard for personal safety and a commitment to hitting the floor.  Thank you Katie Johnson and Brianna Ruffalo for sacrificing your bodies for the team – (http://twitpic.com/41mqus)

Team Chaos made it into the Bronze division and finished 29th overall.  This was a BIG step forward for them as a team.  I did not expect us to be moving up on the first day and I’m very proud of the focus and preparation that the team showed on the court.  Our defense looked very strong and our ball control was generally good.  We also welcomed back Alyssa Warren and Danielle Montgomery to the team for their first tournament and they were both able to make positive contributions.
